FAQ’s
WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
Chiropractic care is an alternative medicine that aims to diagnose and treat mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The spine is the primary area of treatment, but joints are also tended to during chiropractic care. Chiropractors “adjust” the body to aid in joint function and support the nervous system. Adjustments are often made manually (by hand), but there are also many tools and devices that chiropractors may use when making adjustments to their patients. Many patients seek chiropractic care to avoid invasive and potentially risky traditional treatments like surgery or ongoing medications.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT MY FIRST CHIROPRACTIC VISIT?
Every chiropractor is different in their technique and care, but your chiropractor will conduct a check at your first visit, either manually or with technology. This check is to see what parts of the body are stressed and overcompensating. Using a nervous system scan allows doctors to identify nervous system disturbances, so your doctor can pinpoint what areas need adjustments and healing. Some doctors will physically/manually assess by watching you walk, feeling your spine, or check your muscle strength. From there, your chiropractor will develop a care plan for you.
DO CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS HURT?
No, adjustments should be painless, but some patients will feel minimal discomfort as an adjustment is made. Some patients will feel a “pop” after an adjustment is made. Some may even experience tightness or soreness, but an adjustment should never cause pain. If you experience any pain or discomfort during a session with your chiropractor, notify them immediately.
WHAT IS SPINE MANIPULATION?
Spine manipulation is a form of chiropractic therapy where the doctor will make adjustments to the spine and joints by applying a forced thrust. The force and degree of spinal manipulation are done with intention.
What is Stem Cell Therapy and Regenerative Care?
MSC’s Medicinal Signaling Cells (previously known as Mesenchymal stem cells) are known for being self-renewing, anti-inflammatory, and powerful when used to signal regrowth within the body. During regenerative therapy, these cells are injected using ultrasound guidance into the area of the body that is experiencing diseased or damaged tissue. Once introduced, the signaling cells work to decrease inflammation and repair and rebuild the affected tissue by signaling your own body to repair itself.
While Regenerative therapy does not provide a cure for various diseases, it does help greatly reduce symptoms and help an individual naturally navigate the healing process without the use of harsh drugs or surgery.
What Types of Regenerative Care
Currently, there is a multitude of regenerative treatments being deployed and under study throughout the world. Some of the varying forms and delivery methods include:
Bone Marrow
Adipose tissue (fat)
Placental products
PRP (Platelet-rich plasma)
Ozone therapy
Platelet Rich Plasma Injections:
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints.
Ozone Injections:
Ozone therapies help remove harmful free radicals from the body, prevent tissue damage, as well as improve local circulation. These injections have a cumulative effect; ozone activates the immune system, and heals damaged cells, protecting them from future oxidative stress.
Types of Stem Cells
Stem cells have two similar attributes: self-renewal and differentiation. The former means an ability to make copies of themselves. The latter implies an ability to develop into more specialized cells. Despite these two essential abilities, some dissimilarities also exist among them.
Embryonic Stem Cells
These stem cells form in the blastocyst, a hollow ball of cells that emerges between 72 to 120 hours after fertilizing an egg by a sperm. The blastocyst is what later becomes the embryo. Cell differentiation begins with the implanting of the embryo in the uterus. This type of stem cell differentiates into more cell types than the adult type. Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent. This means they can differentiate into every cell type in the human body apart from the placenta and umbilical cord cells.
Adult Stem Cells
Adult stem cells are also known as tissue-specific or somatic stem cells. They start forming as soon as the embryo emerges and can be found in adult tissues like bone marrow. They are not as abundant as embryonic cells. Scientists previously believed that tissue-specific cells could not differentiate into other cells. But this notion no longer holds, according to recent research. For instance, bone marrow cells can differentiate into brain cells, etc.
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells
These are adult cells that are genetically programmed to exhibit the characteristics of embryonic stem cells. They help scientists in the invention and testing of new therapies and medications, among other uses. Notable advancements in this field include reprogramming regular connective tissue cells into functional heart cells in animals. Injecting these new heart cells into animals with failing hearts led to improvements in heart function and survival time.
Perinatal Stem Cells
Perinatal stem cells were discovered in amniotic fluid and umbilical cord blood. Amniotic fluid is found in the sac that surrounds and protects a growing fetus in the womb. One of their characteristics is the ability to develop into specialized cells. This area requires more scientific scrutiny for further comprehension of the potential of amniotic fluid stem cells.
Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC)
Mesenchymal stromal cells are rare, non-hematopoietic progenitor cells of mesodermal and neuroectodermal derivation. At birth, these cells can be found in certain tissue niches, usually in a perivascular distribution.
MSCs can be used to develop new body tissues such as cartilage, bone, and fat cells. There is a possibility of using them to tackle a broad range of health challenges in the future.
Resources To Take A Look At
This often helps resolve joint inflammation and reduces the patient’s pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort and our chiropractors adapt the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.
